A trio of B.A.A. athletes will represent the United States at the Great Edinburgh Cross Country meet on Saturday, January 9, in Scotland. The meet, which is one of the most prestigious cross country competitions in the world, showcases athletes from around the globe, including Olympic and World Championships medalists.
After placing fifth and sixth at the USATF Club Cross Country National Championships last weekend, B.A.A. teammates Emma Bates and Sarah Pagano have qualified to race wearing the Team USA uniform in Scotland. Emma ran at the Great Edinburgh Cross Country meet in January of 2015, placing sixth overall. The women will race a 6 kilometer course that features three challenging, hilly loops.
Also earning a spot on the starting line was the B.A.A.’s Brian Harvey, who finished 12th at the USATF Club Cross Country National Championships in San Francisco. Harvey will race the men’s 8 kilometer event, toeing the line against top competitors from Europe. Fellow B.A.A. team member Daniel Winn was eligible to race in Scotland, but bypassed his selection in order to concentrate on the upcoming indoor track season.
For years, the Great Edinburgh Cross Country meet has drawn top athletes from both the track and roads, creating a thrilling competition. Double Olympic, World, and European champion Mo Farah has already been announced as competing, representing the team from Great Britain.
