Jen Rhines of the Boston Athletic Association is USA Track & Field – New England’s Athlete of the Month for October 2014 following an outstanding month of distance running.
The 40-year old scored top places in several masters and open competitions. On October 5, Rhines won USATF Masters 5K Championship at the Syracuse Festival of Races in one of the five fastest times run on the course. A week later at the Tufts 10K for Women in Boston, she won the masters division and finished 12th overall. Her time of 32:33 broke the USA masters 10K road record by 17 seconds, and contributed to the B.A.A. efforts in winning USA Women’s 10K Team Championship. On October 26 at the Mayor’s Cup Cross Country Races, she was the first master and 3rd overall finisher in the Women’s 5K Championship race where the B.A.A. won the team title.
Rhines is three-time USA Olympian in three different events – the 10,000m at Sydney in 2000, the marathon at Athens in 2004, and the 5000m at Beijing in 2008.
