The Boston Athletic Association shined at the 2014 USATF National Women’s Club Team 10K Championships in Boston, taking home the national title. Racing together for a majority of the race, the B.A.A.’s Katie Matthews, Jen Rhines, and Juliet Bottorff all finished in the top 13.
Matthews led the squad with a 32:23, ninth place finish, while Rhines and Bottorff placed 12th and 13th in 32:33 and 32:38, respectively. Combined, the trio totaled a time of 1:37:34, defeating runner-up Boulder Running Company/Adidas and Team Run Flagstaff Pro.
“We’re really excited, we’ve been training really well and that was our goal today,” said Rhines, 40, whose performance set a new American Masters Record for 10-K on the roads. Rhines shaved nearly twenty seconds from the previous record of 32:50. “We got some really fast times out there as well, which is like a bonus.”
Rounding out the B.A.A.’s team were Elaina Balouris and Sarah Pagano. Balouris finished 14th in 32:40, while Pagano placed 18th in 33:05.
The B.A.A. team will lace up their racing spikes for the Mayor’s Cup Cross Country meet on Sunday, October 26 in Franklin Park.
