Katie Misuraca wins the women’s 10K and takes the USATF-NE Grand Prix Individual Title
In the final race of the USATF-NE Grand Prix Road Race series, the B.A.A. teams showed up in strength earning several team and individual titles at the Lone Gull 10K in Gloucester on Sunday, September 20th. B.A.A.’s Katie Misuraca (pictured right), a Gloucester native, had a two point lead over Laura Hagley of Millennium Running going into the final race of the series. On her home turf and on a race course that she trains on weekly in preparation for the Bay State Marathon in October, Katie held off Laura by one place to win the Grand Prix Individual title and won the Lone Gull 10K women’s race in 35:52. The B.A.A. women finished 5th overall in the team competition with Liz Whiting next to cross the line for the B.A.A. placing 24th in 39:16 followed by Mimi Fallon in 33rd place in 40:16, second place in the 50+ category. Also scoring for the B.A.A. Women’s Open team were Amanda Watters (36th, 40:53) and Suzanne Chaves (40th, 41:25).
Going into the race, the B.A.A. Men’s Open team had a slim three point lead over Greater Boston Track Club. In a close race where the G.B.T.C. won the team competition, the B.A.A. closed out the chase for the championships with a third place team finish at the 10K winning the USATF-NE Grand Prix Team Title by just one point over G.B.T.C. Dan Smith led the B.A.A. Men’s Open team finishing 14th overall in 32:46 in a competitive and fast field with teammate Jonathan Baker coming in 27th in 33:33. Also scoring for the B.A.A. Men’s Open team was David Bedoya placing 34th overall in 34:04.
Chris Magill has been leading the B.A.A. Masters team all year while scoring for the B.A.A. Men’s Open team often. Chris had a commanding lead in the Grand Prix Individual standings for the 40+ category and punctuated his Individual title with a dominating Master’s category win in 33:40 placing 29th overall and supporting the B.A.A. Men’s Open team as the third scorer. The B.A.A. Men’s Masters Team was in a tight battle all year with Central Mass Striders and had a slim one point lead over C.M.S going into the 10K race. With Chris leading the way, Peter Hammer followed in 33rd place finishing in 33:58 with Keven O’Neil (49th, 34:39), James Callaghan (57th, 34:55) and Doug McLucas (64th, 35:17) scoring for the Men’s Masters team to take the win over C.M.S. and also clinch the USATF-NE Grand Prix Title, the first ever for a B.A.A. masters team
In the 50 to 54 age Group, B.A.A.’s Christopher Lawrence entered the race with a double digit lead in the Grand Prix individual standings and finished the race series with a win in the 50-54 category in 35:27 with teammate Wayne Levy in the runner-up place to Christopher in 35:45. The B.A.A. Senior Men’s team placed 6th overall in the 10K team competition. Jamie Wilson placed second in the 60+ category in 41:43 to support the team effort while Harry Carter won the 75-79 age division in 52:08.
The Lone Gull 10K wraps up the 2015 USATF-NE Grand Prix Road Race series as summer comes to an end the fall racing season begins. Congrats to the B.A.A. for their top team and individual performances at the Lone Gull 10K and in the USATF-NE Grand Prix Championship Series.
