B.A.A. Running Club Competes in the 18th Annual B.A.A. Half Marathon

B.A.A. Men’s Open team defends title with close team victory.

The 18th Annual B.A.A. Half Marathon, presented by Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund, was held on Sunday, October 7th at Franklin Park. On a mild but humid morning, 6,477 runners toured the historic Emerald Necklace park system with a course that meandered along scenic sites starting at Franklin Park, passing by Jamaica Pond and the Arnold Arboretum, Olmsted Park and the Back Bay Fens with a visit through the Franklin Park Zoo at mile 12 before finishing on the track at White Stadium. The men’s race ended with four men sprinting to the finish on the track with Daniel Chebii of Kenya first to the tape in 1:03:08 and a similar close race of four women in a tight race to the finish with Joan Chelimo also of Kenya winning in 1:09:34.

The B.A.A. men successfully defended the team title edging out the Cambridge Running Club by just 9 seconds. Andreas Heilmann led the way with a 29th place finish in 1:15:43. Next B.A.A. scoring team members were Timothy McFadden in 40th place (1:19:30), John Colavincenzo in 61st (1:22:37), Michael Paulin in 62nd (1:22:45), and Katsu Togami finishing 71st (1:23:21). The B.A.A. Masters Men also won the team title led by Paulin and Togami and supported in the team scoring with Brian Foley finishing in 1:35:16, Jamie Wilson in 1:38:44 and Benjamin Krass in 1:50:14. Wilson was the first place finisher in the 65-69 age category while Michael Paulin pulled in 3rd place in the 40-44 age division.

On the women’s side, Katie Edwards (nee Moraczewski) was the top B.A.A. finisher in 13th overall finishing in 1:23:21. Edwards now turns her training focus to the California International Marathon in December. The women’s team was 2nd overall to The Heartbreakers, with Pam Manley as the second finisher for the B.A.A. women in 1:32:47 and 3rd in the 40-44 age category. Erin McVeigh was the third place B.A.A. finisher in 1:33:05.
