B.A.A.’s Mike Galoob and Ryan McCalmon finish 1-2 in the Men’s Masters 8K; Matt Fischer places 4th to lead the B.A.A. Men’s Open Team to Victory

The B.A.A. Men’s Masters successfully defended their team title with several top performances starting with Mike Galoob winning the 8K in 26:44 just ahead of teammate Ryan McCalmon in the runner-up position a few seconds back in 26:47. The B.A.A. men dominated the competition with four runners in the top five to win the team competition easily. Andy Gardiner finished in 4th overall in 26:51 and first in the 50+ category just ahead of Peter Hammer in 5th overall finishing just one second back in 26:52. Keven O’Neil closed out the team scoring placing 15th overall in 27:55. Returning to racing after a recent injury, Chris Magill has worked his way back into form with an 18th place finish in 28:03 followed by Matt Herman in 28:04. The B.A.A. Masters team outscored rival C.M.S scoring a low 24 to their 57 points while the B.A.A. Seniors team was second place to the Greater Springfield Harriers.

Very similar to the 2015 New England Cross Country Championships, B.A.A.’s Matt Fischer led the Men’s Open team to victory again with a 4th place finish in 30:21. Last year, Fischer was 2nd overall in 30:22 but ran into some faster competition this year with the top two finishers both dipping under 30 minutes. New B.A.A. team member Guillaume Adam was in the lead pack through much of the race finishing 6th overall for the B.A.A. in 30:24. Brian Harvey and Eric Ashe are back to racing side-by-side with Harvey finishing in 30:45 for 9th and Ashe in 30:53 for 10th overall. Both are working their way back to top form. Harvey is recovering from his recent win at the Hartford Marathon in October whereas Ashe is returning to racing after being sidelined with an injury earlier this spring. Dan Harper closed out the scoring for the B.A.A. finishing 13th overall in 31:10 followed by Kameron Ulmer in 16th in 31:29 and new B.A.A. team member Chris Allen in 22nd in 32:15. The B.A.A. won the team championships by a 34 point margin with the B.A.A. scoring 20 points and The Heartbreakers coming in second with 54 points.

In the Women’s Championship 6K Race, B.A.A.’s Heather Cappello was the top B.A.A. woman to finish in 6th place overall in 21:17. The women’s race was dominated by former B.C. All-American, Liv Westphal, winning easily in 20:17. Westphal won the B.A.A. Mayor’s Cup Women’s Championship race two weeks earlier. Also racing for the B.A.A. women were Rachel Hyland finishing in 12th overall in 21:54 and new B.A.A. team member Emily Shea in 61st overall in 23:52.

The B.A.A. Running Club now looks ahead to competing at the USA Club Cross Country National Championships on December 10th in Tallahassee. .
