B.A.A.’s Karolyn Bowley places 2nd overall in the USATF 10K Championships

The B.A.A. Masters Men came up short in their quest to repeat as team champions at the USATF 10K Masters Championships held at the James Joyce Ramble in Dedham on Sunday, April 29th. The Championship race has been in the B.A.A.’s backyard since 2013 with the B.A.A. Men’s Masters team winning three of the past six years. David Bedoya led this year’s team to the runner-up finish placing 5th overall in the Masters race with a time of 33:28. David Angell of Roanoke Valley Elite and winner of the 2017 race ran away with the individual title winning by over 30 seconds in 32:33 ahead of Patrick Rich of CMS finishing in 33:02 to lead the Central Mass Striders to the team championship win over the B.A.A. Matt Herman was the second Master to finish for the B.A.A. finishing 14th in 34:24 with Ryan McCalmon as the third and final team scorer for the Masters team placing 16th in 34:47.
New B.A.A. member Karolyn Bowley placed 2nd overall in the Women’s Masters 10K Championship race finishing in 37:58 behind Jennifer Bayliss of San Ramon, CA winning in 37:19. In the 80-84 age category, B.A.A.’s Harry Carter placed 2nd finishing in 54:05. Also competing for the B.A.A. Masters were Paul Davies (37:34/42nd) and Dennis Herman (48:06, 166th). The B.A.A. Seniors team placed 8th overall.
In the James Joyce Ramble 10K Open race, B.A.A.’s Brian Harvey won his third consecutive Ramble title winning the race in 30:49 ahead of teammate Peter Gilmore finishing second overall in 32:00. Harvey was using the 10K race as a tune-up before he runs the Grandma’s Marathon in June. In the women’s race, B.A.A.’s Charlotte Walmsley made her 10K debut finishing third overall in 36:47. Holly Rees of Battle Road TC repeated as the women’s winner in 34:18. B.A.A.’s Kaela O’Neil was 6th overall finishing in 38:14.
