In a fast race with the top seven runners under 24 minutes, Brian Harvey and Eric Ashe led the B.A.A. Men’s Open team to a 5th place finish in the 8K Championship race. Harvey ran a smart race pacing just behind the leaders early on before moving up in the final mile to finish 6th overall in 23:57. He was followed by teammate Ashe just two seconds back in 7th place (23:59). Justin Lutz was the third B.A.A. team scorer in 26:13, good for 49th place. Michael Reher finished in 52nd place in 26:19 and Aaron Price placed 68th in 26:53 as the fourth and fifth scorers for the men’s team.
The Women’s 5K Championship race was a three person race from the gun with New Balance’s Liz Costello outsprinting Boston College’s Liv Westphal and the Oregon Project’s Mary Cain to win the race in 16:35. Emily D’Addario was the top B.A.A. woman finishing 20th overall in 18:39. Emily ran the Hartford Marathon just two weeks earlier in 2:54:06 and was using the Mayor’s Cup race to change up her training and have some fun with the shorter distances. Kristin Murphy was the second B.A.A. team scorer placing 29th overall in 19:08, with Ellen Callahan the next B.A.A. runner to cross the finish in 42nd place with a time of 19:39. Suzanne Chaves (55th in 20:46) and Amanda Watters (58th in 21:03) rounded out the team B.A.A. scorers. The B.A.A. women placed 3rd overall in the team competition with 87 points behind New Balance Boston and Greater Boston Track Club.
The Franklin Park 5K was the final race of the day with 14 B.A.A. runners competing. In a four person race for the bronze, Chris Magill took the final podium spot finishing third in 16:38, just one second ahead of teammates Harry Stants and Peter Hammer, who finished with identical times of 16:39 for fifth and sixth place, respectively. The B.A.A.’s James Callaghan finished 14th overall in 17:35, with Christopher Lawrence 19th in 17:39. Chris Magill won the Men’s Masters division and Christopher Lawrence won the Men’s Senior division.
