B.A.A.’s Kaela O’Neil was the top finisher for the B.A.A. teams with a 4th place finish.
The USATF National Club Cross Country Club Championships were held this year in Spokane, WA where the B.A.A. sent several teams to compete. Leading the charge in the first of four races was B.A.A.’s Kaela O’Neil who placed 4th overall in the Women’s Masters 6K race in her first trip to this event. Pacing herself from the start, O’Neil moved up from 15th place early in the race to secure the 4th place finish with a new personal best time of 22:27.
Following the footsteps of O’Neil, the Men’s Masters team toed the line with high hopes of winning the team competition after finishing runner-up last year to West Valley Track Club and just ahead of the Bowerman Track Club. Despite excellent racing by the men, it was Bowerman TC on top of the podium this year winning the team competition with 52 points. The B.A.A. Men were once again 2nd place with 78 points and ahead of West Valley TC in 3rd place with 88 points. B.A.A.’s David Bedoya led the men in the Masters 10k race with an 11 place finish in 33:52 followed closely by Matt Carter in 14th place in 33:39. Working well together as a team, the next three B.A.A. Masters men finished 17th, 18th and 19th respectively with Brendan Prindiville finishing in 34:09, Pete Hammer in 34:13 and Ryan McCalmon in 34:13 to finish off the team scoring. Also competing were Andy Gardiner finishing in 31st in 34:43 and Chris Magill in 36th in 34:53. Pete Hammer and Andy Gardiner were the top finishers in the Men’s 50+ division and 2nd and 3rd overall in the Age-graded category. Congrats to the Masters Men on their 2nd place team finish!
The Women’s Open 6k followed the Men’s Masters 10k with many new faces on this year’s team. B.A.A.’s Laura Paulsen was the top finisher in 82nd place overall finishing in 21:36. Hannah Rowe was next in for the B.A.A. women in 105th place in 21:56 followed by Brenna Detra in 123rd in 22:10, Nicole Borofski in 147th in 22:32 and Emily Raymond placing 174th in 23:06 to cap off the team scoring. Also competing for the B.A.A. women were Jackie Burr in 203rd in 23:37 and Amanda Watters in 233rd in 24:25. The B.A.A. women finished 18th of 32 teams. Congrats on some great racing!
The final race of the day was the Men’s Open 10k with the B.A.A. aiming for a Top Ten team finish. With solid performances by the entire team, the B.A.A. Men’s team finished 9th overall with 50 teams competing. Leading the B.A.A. was Trevor Dunbar, the 2018 Mayor’s Cup Cross Country champion, finishing 16th overall with a time of 30:00. Jonas Hampton was the next B.A.A. runner to finish in 94th place with a time of 31:50. Connor Reck finished in 31:34 good for 83rd place followed by Brad Mish and Chris Allen finished in 106th and 107th respectively in 31:59 and 32:00 to finish off the top five scoring for the B.A.A. Also competing for the B.A.A. Men’s Open team were Alex Fitzgerald finishing 187th in 32:58 and Philip Royer placing 222nd in 33:26.
This race event capped-off an excellent year of team racing and individual athlete performances. Congrats to all of the athletes who competed!
